I ♥ Comics: Back From the Dead
Like any comic book-related character worth his salt, I’ve returned from the dead. What have I been doing? Read on for my poor excuses for well… excuses.
Essentially, I’ve been doing review-worthy things. I’ll save the best for actual reviews, but a short recap follows.
Well, first of all, I’ve been watching more anime. I’m certainly still not what you might call “well-versed,” but Netflix is allowing me to start with those shows I remember and move on to more adventurous pastures. Imagine my disappointment when I finally rewatched Voltron after all these years. Macross has weathered the time much better, and I’m about halfway through the series. Netflix seems to not have Macross Plus available - any suggestions?
I’ve also been using and abusing my local library network to catch up on notable comic works without necessarily having to shell out the cash. The Killing Joke, Absolute Batman: Hush, DC: New Frontier, Fun Home, Jimmy Corrigan, and all of Identity Crisis (including the preludes) have made their way through my grubby fingers. I’ve got Persepolis, Absolute Watchmen, and Absolute Kingdom Come sitting in the nightstand queue as we speak.
Manga-wise, I’ve picked up the remaining volumes of Planetes, and I’m enjoying making my way through those. It’s interesting to watch Hachimaki’s journey as a character. I’m actually seeing something similar going on with Hikaru on Macross.
As for comic-related movies, I took a gander at 300 and Catwoman. Take a wild guess where those fall on the suck-o-meter.
So I haven’t truly been out of the loop - just not in a writing mood. We’ll see if we can’t take care of fixing that here real soon.
