Another excellent installment in this mini-series by Oeming and Brandon. I’ve read some reviews that criticize the panel usage and pacing of these books, and say that they look too much like Powers. Pshaw! The panel usage and pacing are what I like best about these books. They add an emotional dimension to the story that’s missing in so many of its counterparts in the store. As far as the art goes, it matches the mood of the book perfectly. This is what Oeming does. He writes crime books and draws them in a cartoony way, but in a way that still seems like we’re dealing with actual people.
This story picks up where the last issue left off. Detective Aponte looks like he’s getting some ideas about what’s going on. He meets up again with the creepy old lady and goes off on his own to check up on some suspicions. The story is starting to get a little more mystical/voodoo, and the final scene is more than a little disburbing. But what does all of this mean? We’ll have to wait until next month to find out.
